The American Breed
The American Breed var en amerikansk rockgrupp bildad i en förort till Chicago, Illinois 1967. Gruppen gick först under namnet Gary & the Nite Lites.

Medlemmar i bandet var från början Gary Loizzo (sång/gitarr), Al Ciner (gitarr), Chuck Colbert (basgitarr), och Lee Graziano (trummor). 1968 blev Kevin Murphy (keyboards) medlem. Gruppen fick en internationell hitsingel med låten "Bend Me, Shape Me" som lanserades sent 1967 och nådde listorna tidigt 1968. Även "Step Out of Your Mind" (1967) och "Green Light" (1968) topp 40-noterades på Billboard Hot 100-listan. Gruppen upplöstes kring 1970, och Murphy bildade i spillrorna av The American Breed soulgruppen Rufus.
