Beskrivning
English: The Cyclorama on Front Street West, west of York Street, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Cycloramas were a popular form of entertainment and educational attraction in the 19th century, consisting of circular buildings in which large, panoramic paintings were installed, usually of a war or religious theme, intended to provide the viewer with a 360 degree view of a scene. The angles and proportions in the paintings were deliberately manipulated to give the illusion of distance and three dimensions.

Toronto's Cyclorama was built in 1887 by the Toronto Art Company, and the opening exhibition was a depiction of the bloody 1870 Battle of Sedan in the Franco-Prussian war. The popularity of cycloramas waned, and the building was seized in 1899 for tax arrears. The building became the home of the Petrie Machinery Company (as shown in the image), and in the late 1920s a parking garage was built into the circular structure. The building was demolished in 1976.

For more information, see Heritage Toronto - The Cyclorama.
